The WhatsApp green tick for UAE businesses: how verification works in 2026

The WhatsApp "green tick" is now a blue verified badge, and there are two ways for a UAE business to get it: an Official Business Account on the WhatsApp Business Platform, granted by Meta for notable brands, or a Meta Verified subscription. What each route requires, how business verification and display name approval fit in, why requests get rejected, and what matters more than the badge.

TL;DR: The WhatsApp "green tick" is now a blue verified badge. A UAE business can get it in two ways: an Official Business Account, free but granted by Meta only to notable brands on the WhatsApp Business Platform, or Meta Verified, a paid subscription that checks your identity, where Meta offers it for your account. Business verification in Meta Business Manager is a separate step that every business on the API should complete; it raises messaging limits but shows no badge. Nobody can sell you a guaranteed tick. And for most businesses, a recognisable display name, a complete profile and fast, accurate replies do more for trust than the badge itself.

Green tick or blue tick?

During 2024, Meta replaced the green verification badge on WhatsApp business profiles with a blue checkmark, matching Instagram and Facebook. Search habits have not caught up: in Dubai and across the UAE people still ask how to get the "green tick". The thing they mean is the verified badge next to the business name, and today it is blue.

Three different things get called "verified", and mixing them up is where most wasted effort starts:

StatusWhat it isVisible to customers?
Business verificationMeta checks your company's legal documents in Business ManagerNo. It unlocks higher messaging limits and other features
Official Business Account (OBA)A status Meta grants to notable brands on the WhatsApp Business PlatformYes, verified badge
Meta VerifiedA paid subscription that verifies your business identity and adds account protectionYes, verified badge

Step one for everyone: business verification and display name

If you use, or plan to use, the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API, directly through Meta or through a Business Solution Provider), start here. Neither badge is possible without it, and it matters on its own.

  • Verify the business in Meta Business Manager. You submit company documents; for a UAE company that is typically the trade licence, with the legal name and address matching exactly what you enter. Mismatches between the licence, the website and the Business Manager details are the usual reason verification stalls.
  • Get the display name approved. The name shown on WhatsApp must have a clear relationship to your business, such as your brand or trade name, and follow Meta's display name rules. Generic names ("Dubai Real Estate") and names that do not appear on your website or documents tend to be rejected.
  • Turn on two-step verification for the phone number.

A verified business with an approved name gets higher messaging limits, which matters as soon as you send templates at any volume. The differences between the free app and the API, and when a business actually needs the API, are in our WhatsApp Business API vs app guide.

Route one: Official Business Account

An Official Business Account is free and requested from WhatsApp Manager for a number on the WhatsApp Business Platform. It is meant for brands that customers already know and search for. Meta's published prerequisites include:

  • a verified business in Business Manager;
  • an approved display name, which is what notability is judged against;
  • two-step verification on the number;
  • some time active on the WhatsApp Business Platform before requesting.

The deciding factor is notability. Meta looks for coverage of the brand in independent, well-known publications. In the UAE that means genuine editorial coverage in established news outlets, not:

  • paid or sponsored articles, advertorials and press-release distribution;
  • business directories and listings;
  • your own website, blog or social profiles.

You can attach supporting links to the request. If it is rejected, there is no appeal; you can reapply after a waiting period, typically 30 days, so the second attempt should come with better evidence rather than the same links. Requirements change, so check Meta's current WhatsApp Business Platform documentation before you submit.

Route two: Meta Verified

Meta Verified is a monthly subscription. Meta verifies the business's identity and, once approved, shows a verified badge and adds features such as impersonation monitoring and access to support. It does not require press coverage, which makes it the realistic option for most SMEs.

Availability has been rolling out by market and by product, starting with the WhatsApp Business app, and Meta lets businesses keep their Meta Verified status when they connect the app to the Business Platform. Before planning around it, check in Meta Business Suite or in the WhatsApp Business app settings whether the subscription is offered for your account in the UAE, and what it currently costs. We do not quote a price here because Meta sets and changes it.

Which route fits your business?

  • A well-known brand with real press coverage, such as a retailer, developer, airline or bank: request an Official Business Account.
  • An SME, clinic, agency or trading company without independent coverage: Meta Verified, where offered, is the practical route. An OBA request is likely to be rejected for lack of notability.
  • Any business on the API: complete business verification and display name approval first, whichever route you choose, or neither.

Who can submit it, and what to be wary of

You can request an Official Business Account yourself in WhatsApp Manager, or your Business Solution Provider can submit it for you. A provider can make sure the prerequisites are in place and the request is complete. What nobody outside Meta can do is guarantee the result. Treat any offer of a "guaranteed green tick" for a fee as a red flag: at best it is a request submission sold at a mark-up, at worst it involves buying the "press coverage" that Meta specifically discounts.

The same caution applies to choosing a provider generally; our guide to choosing a WhatsApp Business API provider in the UAE covers what to ask.

What builds trust more than the badge

Most customers who message a UAE business on WhatsApp have just come from its website, an ad or a Google listing. What reassures them is that the chat matches where they came from and that someone answers properly:

  • A display name and profile photo that match your website and signage.
  • A complete business profile: description, address, hours, website and email.
  • A link or QR code on your own site, so customers know the number is genuinely yours. Our free WhatsApp link and QR generator makes one in a minute.
  • Fast, accurate replies in Arabic and English, at any hour, with a clear hand-off to a person for anything that needs one. That is what an AI assistant on the API does well; see our WhatsApp and AI chatbot service.
  • Never asking for card details or passwords in chat. Scammers impersonate businesses on WhatsApp; a business that tells customers what it will never ask for makes impersonation harder.

Questions

Not in green. During 2024 Meta replaced the green verification badge on WhatsApp business accounts with a blue checkmark, so verification looks the same across WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. People in the UAE still search for the "green tick", but the badge a verified business gets today is blue.
